Message from the Headteacher
It’s hard to believe that we are already half way through the summer term and the events planned for the end of the school year are so close. As you can see we have decided to change the format and the content of our newsletters in order to ensure that we give you as much information as possible about what is happening in the school. From now on we will be regularly informing you of our school priorities and progress towards these. We will also give you information about any school events which have taken place along with any notable achievements. Please be assured that despite Mr Ridgway’s absence Mrs Bygrave and myself are working hard with the staff and governors to ensure the school continues to develop and improve. Thank you for your response to the parent questionnaire – your views are important to us and after the holiday we will be outlining how we intend to address the issues raised by you. Future newsletters may not necessarily be fortnightly, but as and when needed, at least one per half term. We would like to celebrate children’s achievements outside as well as inside school so if your child has won an award, passed an exam or been successful in an out of school activity please let a member of staff at the office know so we can put this in our next newsletter. We will also be highlighting successes in school which have been noted by staff. Our website has now been updated and all newsletters can be found at www.dissjuniorschool.co.uk . Just to clarify, I am in school on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and on Thursdays and Fridays Mrs Bygrave is the Acting Head. We are working together closely and liaise on a daily basis so any issues you raise with either of us are shared.
I would be interested in your comments regarding the new format.
Miss Martin
Enjoy your half term break!

DINNER MONEY— NEW PAYMENT ARRANGEMENTSThe current system of paying for dinners has been causing difficulties for staff and children for quite some time (lost money, money spent in the shop on the way to school, office staff having to chase up money etc) so, after a great deal of discussion we are changing the system to make it more efficient.
After half term children will no longer be paying for their meals in the dining hall. Instead the lunches will need to be booked and paid for on a Monday (or the first day back if not in on Monday). This will be £2.05 per day. Children will still need to bring money in on a daily basis if they wish to buy items from the tuck shop or buy a drink with their meal. Water is always available in the dining room at lunchtime but drinks can be purchased—prices range from 25p to 40p.
Please send the money into school in an envelope clearly marked with your child’s name, class, which days they wish to have lunch and total amount enclosed. With this letter we have sent some labels to enable you to recycle your envelopes. Further supplies will be available outside the school office. We would be grateful if you could return the labels if your child does not have school lunch
For security reasons please pay by cheque wherever possible.

It was great to see so many
parents and family members join us for lunch this week. I know the children loved having their parents visit the school.
The kitchen staff did a fantastic job, as usual, preparing some really tasty meals.
SPORTS NEWS
Anyone for Cricket?
On 20 th May a squad of 9 players played in the Kwik Cricket Tournament at Diss High School. The team played 3 matches to come joint first in the league! Throughout the afternoon there were some awesome catches, fantastic wickets and outstanding batting resulting in the team coming 5 th with a superb display of fielding organised by our captain Joshua Musk. The most improved player was Thomas Knapp although congratulations go to the whole team for such team spirit and sporting example.
If anyone is interested in playing cricket there will be a club starting after half term on a Monday lunchtime. Don’t forget you can book a place at the Pro Coach cricket sessions on Mondays after school!
Victory against Harleston
The annual girls football match against Harleston Primary School was played by a girls team selected from Year 4, 5 and 6 on Friday 21 st May. The girls battled in the brilliant sunlight on an uphill pitch to win 2 nil! Both goals were scored by Rebecca Archibald but supported by excellent mid fielders, Kelsey Kent and Cara Fensome. However player of the match was Lauren Dennis who defended every ball! There will be a return match in July!
School Journalists
On behalf of the school, children from year 5 will be writing an article in the monthly Parish magazine. Each month a group of children will be chosen to independently compile a piece outlining some of the activities which have taken place. The first group of children did a splendid job so please look out for it in the June edition.
