Class organisation for September 2010
From September there will be 7 classes in place of 8. This is due to falling numbers of junior aged children in the area. This will mean that some classes will have mixed year groups. This is commonplace in many schools and will not adversely affect the quality of the curriculum or teaching. If your child is in a mixed age class, he/she will still be taught work appropriate to their age and as before the teachers plan meticulously to ensure that the needs of all children are met. We are in the process of organising the classes for September and will let you know the outcome in a few weeks.
Teaching staff
At the end July we say goodbye to Mrs Hoddy who came to us on a temporary basis to cover maternity leave, and as you are aware, Mr Ridgway will be retiring. We will involve you in any events linked to this.
In addition we are losing Miss Hogg for 2 terms as she will be working with the Maths advisory team for County. We will however, still be receiving some maths expertise from her in this new role.
We have appointed a new teacher, Miss Danielle Chapman who I’m sure will have a lot to bring to the school. All other staff members remain the same.

Assemblies
We are continuing to develop our links with the local church and to support this Canon Billett will be leading our assembly most Wednesdays. We thank him for giving his time to this as the children really enjoy his assemblies.
Parent Support Worker
We are very fortunate to have Simon Andrew allocated to our school and we are working closely with him to provide opportunities where you can meet him and talk to him about any parenting concerns you may have. For those of you who haven’t met him he is very approachable and good humoured and anything you say to him will be in confidence. His role is to help provide practical ways of overcoming any concerns or difficulties you may be having. His first session will be on 17th June, 9-11, There’s no need to make an appointment just call in on the day and sit and enjoy a chat with him over some coffee and biscuits.
Celebrating
· The mature way in which the year 6 children handled SAT’s week and preparing themselves well.
· The politeness of the children throughout the school – without reminding, they hold open doors for others and let other people pass.
· The football team’s sense of fair play and positive sporting spirit even when things aren’t going well!
· The system of homework where children are now bringing in very good quality pieces of work.
· You will also see some posters designed by some of our children displayed around the town advertising the competition for Diss Town Carnival.
Health and Safety of Children
It is really important at this time of year that all children have sun hats even on the days which look overcast – the sun is very intense at this time of year and we want to ensure all children are able to have fun outside without getting burnt or feeling unwell. Regarding sun-cream – it is parent’s responsibility to ensure that children are properly equipped to be out in the sun. Therefore either ensure you apply the 12hour sunscreen before school or send you child with cream that they know how to apply. All children must bring a water bottle. Please help us to keep your child safe in the sun!
