The Diss Community Woodland Project

Established June 2006 with the purpose of creating a woodland for the benefit of the local community.

Local children and young people are encouraged to participate. Local expertise and skills will be used and shared wherever possible.

Native and naturalised trees and shrubs will be planted, to enhance the already traditional landscape and to provide a rich haven for wildlife.

The project will strive to become fully sustainable:

  • Environmentally – by using safe traditional practices, a ‘no chemical’ policy, environmentally friendly materials and structures sympathetic to their surroundings.
  • Socially – by making the project enjoyable, engendering community spirit and making sure that knowledge and skills are passed on to successive generations.
  • Financially – by keeping administration simple, costs low and ensuring that skills needed are developed within the community

The Community Woodland Project is fortunate to have agreed the purchase of part of Pheasantries Farm, on the termination of the existing tenancy at September 2008. The land has been owned by the Quaker Trust for generations.
