Although Skelton have been overall winners of Sports Day for quite a few years now, 2017 saw Fitzwalter take the trophy in a close finish at the end of an exciting day.

The day started with an exhilarating Year Two sprint race, with some up and coming future stars of the track pitted against each other.  Further highlights were the toddler race (delayed by a false start which was quickly sorted out by a Y6 big brother who helped to retrieve his sister); the mixed relay which curiously resulted in the same three teams taking bronze, silver and gold and the final water races which were a testament to the determination of the exhausted athletes who used their final drops of energy to push for a win for their team.  With Fitzwalter slightly ahead of Skelton, Wilbye and Manning by lunchtime, there was all to play for in the afternoon field events.

Lunch helped flagging energy levels to rise again and with vortex, javelin, the newspaper obstacle race and long jump among eight further challenges, the afternoon proved successful for Fitzwalter, who came first overall with Manning second, Wilbye taking third place and last year’s winners, Skelton, this year’s fourth place!

Well done to all athletes and to Miss Caley, Y6 playleaders and staff who helped with the smooth running of the day.  Special thanks also to all the the supporters (parents and friends) who came in the morning to watch.
